McDermott, Will & Emery is an international law firm with a diversified business practice, representing a wide range of commercial, industrial and financial enterprises. With over 1000 lawyers practicing in numerous offices around the world, McDermott is the 10th largest law firm in the United States.
Problem
Due to the increasing competition for top recruits, McDermott needed to create a narrowly-focused resource for potential hires that could provide in-depth information, as well as communicate the firm’s brand and commitment to recruiting and retaining talented associates.
Solutions
- Microsite: To convey the importance McDermott places on recruiting, a dedicated microsite was created. The microsite allowed the firm to provide an inviting environment where recruits could browse targeted information about open positions, benefit packages, summer associate programs, campus recruiting events and alumni currently employed at McDermott.
- Relational Database: Duo created a central repository for school-specific information and firm materials, which allowed relationships to be assigned between them based on school name, location, or practice area. For example, a Stanford student is directed to a Stanford-specific page that includes information about recruiting dates, alumni on staff and other pertinent information.
- Information Architecture: Each section of the site is designed to feel like its own site. Visitors do not need to search through multiple menus to find the information they need; once they indicate a “path,” such as a school or area of interest, targeted content populates subsequent pages.
- Flash Animation: Duo created a flash animation for the careers homepage to set the tone for the rest of the site. Professional, yet contemporary, it conveys McDermott’s commitment to hiring the most talented people in the field and the firm’s emphasis on teamwork.
Results
- A 24-hr recruiting resource, which allows recruits to explore opportunities with McDermott at their convenience
- The ability to provide a tailored experience to potential recruits from over 75 schools
- A content management system that links to the main site’s database, which allows McDermott to efficiently update firm-related content on a regular basis.
